British alternative rock band The House Of Love's 1990 album The House Of Love is their second studio album and is often regarded as a defining moment in their career. Following their 1988 debut album, the band refined their sound and achieved a more accessible, polished production while retaining their core indie rock. The album was produced by Tim Palmer, known for his work with The Cure and U2, and features jarring guitars, lush production and emotive lyrics.
The music is a mixture of indie rock, alternative and Britpop influences, with elements of post-punk and psychedelia. "Shine On" is the album's biggest hit; this track became the band's best-selling single, reaching number 16 on the UK Singles Chart. With its infectious chorus and anthemic mood, it remains one of the band's most popular songs. Other notable tracks include "Beatles and The Stones", a playful tribute to the legendary rock bands that showcases the band's talent for catchy, riff-driven melodies; "Shake and Crawl", which stands out with its driving rhythm and infectious energy, capturing the band's indie rock vibe; and "Hedonist", a song that strikes a deeper, darker tone and deals lyrically with themes of excess and self-destruction.
