The debut album "In The Lonely Hour" reached #1 in the UK charts and #2 in the US Billboard charts. In Germany, the album reached #17 in the Media Control Charts. The album has since sold more than 2.3 million copies worldwide and is the second best-selling album of the year in the UK.

As a guest singer on Disclosure's "Latch" and Naughty Boy's "La La La", Sam Smith set his first milestones in the international pop business in the course of 2013.

At the end of 2013, Sam finally won the prestigious Critics' Choice Award at the Brit Awards - the highest accolade that a British newcomer can achieve; after all, this is only awarded to the best high-potential artists on the local music scene. Just four weeks later, on January 10, 2014, he was also voted first place in this year's BBC Radio "Sound of 2014" list*.

Finally, Smith exceeded all expectations by shooting to number one in the UK singles charts with his first solo single "Money On My Mind" immediately after its release. No Critics' Choice Award winner had ever achieved this before, not even such brilliant winners from the previous year as Adele or Emeli Sandé.
