"In The Big Room" features Peter Gabriel and his band live in the Big Room at Real World Studios on November 23, 2003.
This intimate concert was for members of Peter Gabriel's Full Moon Club and was part of a short series of live performances in November 2003, which also included a gig for the UK charity Children in Need at Cyfarthfa Castle in Merthyr Tydfil, a show at the Brighton Centre and the Nelson Mandela 46664 concert in Cape Town.
"I hadn't really used the Big Room as a stage myself, so when the opportunity arose in 2003, we took it and offered the few seats to members of the Full Moon Club. It wasn't a big tour, so we weren't as perfectly rehearsed and rehearsed as usual, but it made our performance all the more lively and energetic because we were fully focused on our playing. There was no elaborate visual show, the focus was entirely on the good sound. I had almost forgotten what these songs sounded like, but listening to the mixes I was pleasantly surprised at how lively they sounded. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did." (Peter Gabriel)
The 14-song set includes material from both the 2002/2003 "Growing Up Live" tour - Gabriel's first tour in ten years, which accompanied the release of his album "UP" - and the subsequent "Still Growing Up Live" tour, which spanned much of 2004. Notable additions to the "Growing Up Live" set include "Burn You Up, Burn You Down", "Games Without Frontiers" and "The Tower That Ate People".
For this performance, Peter is accompanied by his former tour band: Tony Levin (bass), David Rhodes (guitar), Ged Lynch (drums), Richard Evans (guitar, whistle, mandolin), Rachel Z (keyboard and backing vocals) and Melanie Gabriel (backing vocals).
