As a founding member of the Jazz Messengers, trumpeter Kenny Dorham was there in November 1955 when drummer Art Blakey made groundbreaking live recordings with the band at Café Bohemia for Blue Note Records. Just six months later, Dorham returned to the famous New York jazz club with his own sextet to record his first sublime live album for the label.
However, Blue Note only released one LP with six tracks from the two-hour performance in 1956. In the Tone Poet series, the complete recordings (with 17 tracks!) are now being released for the first time ever on three LPs in a luxurious triple gatefold cover (mastered from the original analog tapes by Kevin Gray and pressed on 180g vinyl by Optimal).
